W. Cody Reed
Cody Reed is a dedicated criminal defense attorney with Student Legal Services where he provides focused legal guidance to students navigating a range of legal challenges. Prior to joining SLS, Cody was an Assistant City Prosecutor with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, where he handled a comprehensive docket, including OVI, traffic offenses, misdemeanors, and cases involving crimes of violence.
Cody is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and Capital University Law School, where he began his legal journey clerking for the Columbus City Attorney’s Office civil division and later gaining valuable experience in the intake division and with the zone team. His background allowed him to establish lasting relationships with judges, prosecutors, and other Franklin County court officials, offering his clients the advantage of a well-connected advocate.
During his time as a prosecutor, Cody attended both basic OVI enforcement training and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) at the Columbus Police Academy. He also conducted mock trials for the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy, helping train officers in effective courtroom testimony.
Beyond the courtroom, Cody frequently speaks to Ohio State students on legal topics, presents for the First Year Success Program, and serves as a guest lecturer and mock trial judge, helping undergraduates gain practical insights into the legal process.
